Error 692: Hardware failure in port or attached device.

Close all programs, restart the computer and try again.

If the problem persists, then:

Try dialling using Hyperterminal, see can you get through to the username/password prompt.

If you can, then reinstall the modem. (Be careful with WinModems, make sure you use the disks provided by th manufacturer)
